The Skills Assessment for our Summer League for players ages 6-15 will be Saturday, June 5th, at the FIS Gym in La Canada, with the make-up assessment scheduled for Saturday, June 12. The FIS Gym is located at 4490 Cornishon Ave. in La Canada. (Players ages 3,4,5, and camp only members do NOT need to attend the Assessment).
Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time so that you may sign-in, complete any necessary payments, and fill-out our medical/release waiver if you have not already done so.  You player will also be assigned a number and have his or her height measured before entering the gym.  Please be prepared to stay for the duration of the hour.
Age refers to player’s age as of June 5th, 2010:
Once inside the gym, your player will rotate among several stations where our staff will be evaluating different skills. Your player may be asked to go through the stations multiple times, and we may do some larger group drills/scrimmages with the older players toward the end of the time, so please do not leave until you’ve been dismissed by a coach.
FAQs:
Q: Can I bring my player at a time that is not the one listed for him or her?
A: No, because we adjust the basket heights, ball sizes, drills, and coaches each hour. If you cannot attend the above scheduled time, please come to the Make-Up Assessment Scheduled for the 12th.

Q: Oops! I still owe money…can I make a payment on Saturday?

A: Yes! We accept all forms of payments in front of the gym: cash, checks, and credit cards. We will not allow unpaid players to go through the assessment. Thanks for your understanding!

Q: Will my player be assigned a team on Saturday?
A: All team assignments will be announced on Saturday, June 19, at our Parents’ Meeting. The Parent’s meeting will be begin at 6:00 pm at the Lanterman Auditorium in La Canada (4490 Cornishon, across the street and up from the FIS Gym).

Q: I’m a volunteer coach; do a need to be at the Assessment?
A: Once you sign-in your child, you can sit back and relax. We have our neutral staff do all of the evaluating and team building as to take out the politics that are all too often prevalent in youth sports. You will need to attend our pre-season Coaches’ Meeting. More information about the Coaches Meeting will be posted soon.

Q: I am a mom/dad/brother/sister/aunt/uncle/grandmother/grandfather/family friend and I am thinking about coaching. Am I too late to volunteer? Who should I talk to?

A: You are not too late! We can use as many coaches as we can get! Please see Cris, Paul, or Jonathan on Saturday and we can discuss the options and our requirements, as well as position openings (for either head or assistant coaching spots) in your division.

Q: My player will attend the make-up on 12th, who should I notify?
A: Simply showing up on the 12th will be fine!

Q: I think it would be best for my player to play up/play down a division. When should I come?
A: If division placement is a question, please bring your player to BOTH Assessment times. For example, if you have a 7 year old who you want with the 8-9 year olds, he will need to come for the 6-7 year old time, and then re-check in for the 8-9 year old group. After the Assessment, our staff will determine which division would be best for your player. Please note, we discourage playing “up” and require that the player score average or above in the higher division to be considered to play up.

Q: What if I cannot attend either Assessment?
A: If your player does not attend either Assessment, he or she will still be placed on a team, with the understanding that once the season starts, he or she may be subject to a team change within the first two weeks of the season if we find that the teams are unbalanced.

Q: Are there still spots available in the league for my friends?
A: Yes - but spots are very limited! We will begin taking new registrations in person in front of the gym at 9:30 am. If you have a friend who wants to play, rather than bringing him or her to the assessment time, we suggest having the new player come and register at 9:30 am, and then returning to the gym for the appropriate assessment time. Often, if new players wait until the afternoon, spots are already filled!

Thanks, everyone! The Player Assessment Day is always a lot of fun, and we look forward to seeing you all in the Gym this Saturday.

Thanks,
Jonathan Young
